What are “Tip-Edge” Braces?
In orthodontics, there are many different “systems” of brackets that are used, some of them so well marketed that you may know their names: Damon, Damon II, Straight-Wire, etc. As with most things, they are all just different ways to skin a cat, as the old saying goes. Tip-Edge brackets are yet another system, and as with all the others, the system uses tried-and-true principles of orthodontics. We offer both clear and regular metal brackets; as teens aren’t usually as concerned with the look of metal braces, that’s the norm. We use the same kind of patient records (models, x-rays, etc) and analysis they do, to make sure we plan for the right course of treatment. I chose the Tip-Edge System because the patented bracket design offers multiple ways to move teeth, using multiple kinds of wires, elastics, etc, without having to change or reposition the brackets.
Do We Extract Teeth for Braces?
Great question! Most of the time, we do everything we can to avoid extracting teeth to make room for the rest of them. However, there are times it is unavoidable.
How Much Do Braces Cost?
We’re quite competitive with other orthodontic providers in the greater Charlotte Metro area. Especially in today’s economic times, we understand that braces have to be affordable, so we offer a range of payment options. In general, our fees will range from $4500–5500. We do offer discounted rates if you have more than 1 child in treatment with us, or if you chose 6MonthSmiles for yourself, and if you don’t have insurance, the Quality Dental Plan is a great way to save money.
Will You File with Our Insurance?
We are in network with both Delta Dental Premier and CIGNA, and the only insurance plans that we do not take are DMOs and HMOs. As a courtesy, we do file your insurance and accept payment from the insurance companies, with only a few exceptions.
How Long Will I Have to Wear Braces?
As with the fees, we can’t give you a definitive answer until we’ve met, gotten the appropriate x-rays and models, etc., but I can tell you that the usual time is in the 18–24 months range. Some cases may take as little as 12 months, a few will take more than 2 years, but not too many.
